See you next year!

Students in my online class had a unique chance today to discuss two four-letter words: snow and smog.  Snow here in the Willamette Valley, and smog in Shanghai.

After looking at photos like this one of Shanghai in smog,

and comparing with the other four-letter word of snow here in the valley,

well, it is remarkably easy to choose between those four-letter words!

And provides for plenty of geographic discussions about the natural and built environments.

As I wrap-up the academic year, and post here one final note for 2013, I extend my congratulations to the following from the APCG area, upon whom the AAG will bestow honors for their accomplishments and services:

AAG Lifetime Achievement Honors
Alexander Murphy, University of Oregon

AAG Ronald F. Abler Distinguished Service Honors
James W. Harrington, University of Washington - Tacoma and
Wei Li, Arizona State University

AAG Gilbert Grosvenor Geographic Education Honors
Darrel Hess, City College of San Francisco

AAG Enhancing Diversity Award
Zoltan Grossman, The Evergreen State College

Congratulations!

Have a wonderful holiday season, and my wishes for a productive and fun-filled 2014.
